The Cote D’Azur, or French Riviera, is famous as the playground of the rich and famous. The region stretches along the south east coast of France, from St Tropez to the Italian border, and is lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean, giving the regions its French name ‘blue coast’.
The Cote D'Azur is dotted with glamorous towns such as St Tropez, Antibes, Cannes, Nice and Monaco. There is plenty of glitz and glamour available in the many nightclubs and casinos along the Cote D’Azur, but this part of Provence also has plenty of art and culture, with over 100 museums and more than 150 art galleries, plus many historic and ancient sites of interest.
You can also sample traditional Mediterranean cuisine cooked to a high standard, and visit local wineries producing Cotes du Provence wines and local specialty Pastis.
Watersports are a popular activity; other adventurous pursuits on land are mountain biking and rock climbing, with the motor sport Grand Prix being an annual sporting attraction through the narrow streets of Monaco.
The Cote d'azur has a very warm climate, with 300 sunny days per year. June to August are the hottest months, but even in winter the temperature seldom drops below 70C. |
